The original 18 holes at Aroeira has hosted the Portuguese Open on two occasions.
The designer Frank Pennick took the same approach to this design as with his other courses in Portugal. While the course plays reasonably long the test is really about placement off the tee and being as straight as possible so that you can open up the green for your approach shot.
Part of the undoubted appeal is the course’s sense of forested seclusion. The avenues of pine trees provide a serene backdrop to some lovely and challenging holes.
